Everyone wants to provide their family, employees and customers with the cleanest water possible, and as a result, water filtration systems have become a very popular system upgrade for Maine home and business owners.

Aquasana Water Filter System

Water filtration systems provide numerous advantages over not having one at all, regardless of whether you have a private well or are dependent on a municipal water system for your water supply.

For those who value good-tasting, healthy water, American Mechanical & Plumbing can assist you in selecting and installing the water filtration system appropriate for your home and intended use.

The proper type and size of water filtration system you need is determined by the quality of your existing water (i.e. what types of impurities need to be removed) and how much water you plan on using for bathing, drinking and washing. (each system has a specific capacity).

We can perform a preliminary rapid, on-site test to begin to identify potential problems however, the only way to accurately know what is in your water is to have a precise potability test performed on it, which can only be done by a professional lab. If you are unsure of how or where to go about getting this done, we can assist you by referring you to reputable water testing companies.

We use the data from the results of your comprehensive lab testing to determine the specific filtration needs.

American Mechanical & Plumbing is a full-service plumbing contractor specializing in installing water filtration systems in residential buildings and businesses.

Our professional water filtration installers are capable of resolving even the most complex domestic water filtration issues.

Types Of Filters We Service & Install

There are various types and sizes of water filter cartridges. They all have different features that make them best for specific use. For example, some are more effective at cleaning water thoroughly than others, and some work to remove mechanical impurities. In contrast, other technology needs to be used to purify the water further.

Water FiltersSediment Style Filters:

The key characteristics of sediment filters are the size of the pore and how long it lasts. A filter with a larger pore will be able to pull in particles that are smaller than those that can get through a filter designed with a smaller pore. You should determine the micron rating for your sediment filter before purchasing one for your home or business because tanks and plumbing fixtures will vary in regard to what can fit, and there are other factors you need to take into account when deciding on which type of filter is best for your needs. In addition, sediment runoff may cause clogged pipes, which have been known to burst unexpectedly, resulting in severe damage to water heaters, dishwashers, washers/dryers, etc. Avoiding problems like these can save one from potentially having to replace expensive equipment that could have otherwise worked for many more years with minimal care.

Sediment can be harmful to all of your water-using appliances due to the abrasive nature of the sediment. And it could also lead to damage to other types of filtration or softening equipment that you may have installed in your home or other business. Removing sediment is not the only step if a higher level of water purity is desired; there are many other things that should be taken into consideration, such as removing contaminants, bacteria, metals, and salts by using different types of filtering media not limited to activated carbon. In addition, the use of reverse osmosis or microfiltration membranes can provide the highest quality water with an almost limitless shelf life at a fraction of the cost per gallon than bottled water.

Carbon Water Filters:

Activated charcoal is the active part of carbon water filters. It is used to remove chemicals (such as chlorine, volatile organics, and others) and some bad tastes from water. The activated carbon is a component of reverse osmosis water purification systems. It is used to remove the chlorine from the water before flowing to the systems’ membrane, which can be negatively affected by the chlorine as well as being used on its own in standalone filtration units.

Water passes through activated carbon, and the pores of the cell trap particles before the micron rating has been reached. The sediment-water filter must be changed when it is still able to take in more particles. Experts recommend that you always replace your filter before this happens so as to avoid overloading it with too many particles at once. Even though they are affordable, they still do not last forever!

Point Of Entry Systems

In situations where high water use leads to frequent cartridge filter changes, a point of entry water purification system might be an ideal solution. This type of system is able to remove contaminants and screen debris before it enters the tank, saving money on cartridges and media replacement. These systems are also able to clean themselves automatically, further providing cost savings on maintenance services and overall ownership costs. Another example would be if your municipal water supply has elevated chlorine and you wish to eliminate it from your water, a point of entry filter will have enough capacity to absorb the chlorine faster than other filters. It also would allow your water to pass through longer, which increases its contact time or exposure with the carbon as opposed to just passing through for a very short time with other types of filters. A Carbon filtration system also effectively removes Trihalomethanes (TTHMs) and other unwanted contaminants.
